Auto Maintenance Tips: Get the Most out of Your Kelowna Vehicle
At Kelowna Auto Care, our goal is to maintain the performance and safety of your vehicle while providing a great customer experience. While there’s no substitute for professional maintenance, there are a few things you can do to keep your car or truck performing at peak efficiency in between servicing appointments. With that in mind, here are a few tips for proper auto maintenance.
Boost Your Fuel Mileage
Taking a few simple steps can help increase your vehicle’s fuel efficiency and save you money!
-
Check your tire pressure – Keeping your tires inflated to the recommended level can improve your gas mileage by more than 3%.
-
Use the recommended motor oil – Using the grade of motor oil recommended by the manufacturer can increase your fuel economy by 1-2%.
-
Replace your air filters – A clogged air filter can hurt your fuel efficiency, performance and acceleration.
Check for Tire Wear
You can use the “penny test” to check whether you need to replace your tires. Pick the most worn spot on the tire and place a penny in the tire groove with the Queen’s crown facing down. If you can see the top of the crown, it’s time for new tires.
Keep Your Vehicle Looking Its Best
We all want our cars and trucks to run well, look great and last for years. Regular servicing and oil changes can help maintain your vehicle’s engine, but you can also help protect it with regular cleaning, both inside and out.
-
Wash your car regularly – In addition to removing the obvious surface dirt and bugs on the windshield, you should also clean underneath your vehicle. A thorough cleaning of the undercarriage will help prevent damage from winter salt and road grime.
-
Protect the interior – Keep plastic and vinyl parts from drying out by parking in the shade, using a window screen and applying a UV protectant to the surfaces inside your car or truck.
